Who we are

About JAEKA

JAEKA is a Perth based engineering consultancy working in fixed plant and non-process infrastructure across Western Australia’s resources, power, ports and rail sectors. We pride ourselves on our ability to swiftly deliver meaningful outcomes to our clients while maintaining structure and quality.

Our presence in the industry is distinguished by the lasting relationships we’ve formed and recurring services. Our systems are built to be dynamic and aid our ability to move quickly when the market demands it.

What we are best at

Rapid optioneering — finding the right option before investing your time and resources.

The most valuable engineering on any project happens before the final design. Options are inexpensive to change on paper and costly to change once built.

Rapid optioneering is a core JAEKA skill: generating a credible set of options quickly, testing each one against the things that decide a project, and putting a clear recommendation in front of the decision makers. Before we look at options, we test the business case and define the problem statement. This keeps things on track.

We test every option against five questions.

  • Capital cost
    How do the costs compare?
  • Delivery schedule
When are the measurable outcomes attained?
  • Complexity
Technical and commercial. Either one can lower the options ranking.
  • Risk
What do the risks and opportunities look like?
  • Effectiveness
Does the option actually do what the business needs it to do?
  • An option that fails one of these is worth knowing about early. A good part of the value we deliver in a feasibility and concept study is a clear, defensible reason to pursue or not to pursue something.

    Optioneering in practice

    One problem, several options.

Producing an option set at this speed is what lets a decision be made on engineering rather than on the first idea.

    How we work

Technical excellence, and the temperament that goes with it.

    01

    Technical excellence

Our core strength is technical excellence, achieved through inquisitiveness, perseverance and a commitment to continuous improvement.

    02

    Safety in design

Safety in design is a cornerstone of our approach. We define end-user requirements explicitly. Who operates it, who maintains it, so the safest solution and the most effective solution end up being the same solution.

    03

    The right level of detail

We present information at the level the audience needs.

    04

    Long-term partnerships

Our greatest value proposition is simple: building long-term partnerships. We set out to understand a client’s operation intimately and continue adding value across projects.

    • Integrity guides every decision we make.
    • Competence ensures every recommendation is backed by expertise.
    • Leadership means open, honest, and timely communication.
    • Sustainability is considered in every option we assess.
    • When ethics and instructions conflict, we speak up early.

    Engagement

Leading the study, or strengthening your team.

Our involvement scales to what the project needs. On some engagements we run the work end to end, driving the options process, coordinating discipline inputs, managing the interfaces and developing the deliverables.

On others we support the owner’s team as supplementary support, taking on the workload that the owners engineers do not have capacity for, working to the client’s templates and reporting into the client’s structure.

    Our team

    Experienced Engineers and Designers

JAEKA’s people have built their careers on Western Australian projects, in resources and minerals processing, in power, and in ports and rail. WA projects carry unique constraints: remoteness, cyclonic and ambient conditions, rostered work and the availability of the right construction contractor at the right time.

Our team is well versed with this. Engagements are staffed by experienced personnel. More on the sectors we work in.

    Where we work

    Based in Perth, Western Australia.

Working on projects across the Pilbara, the Goldfields and the Mid West.

    • Processing, materials handling, and the infrastructure that supports remote operations.
    • Sustaining capital and brownfield upgrades.
    • Power and supply chain export infrastructure.

Most of our engagements start as a conversation about a need. That is the right time to call us and define the project brief.
